I had a very similar problem.  Upgrade your perl rpm, even if it reports
that you are using 5.004.  Find the latest version, install it with rpm and
then uninstall the previous version. I think if you try to uninstall the
current version, the system will complain, saying there are too many
dependencies. FYI, my system still reports 5.004_4, but I found and loaded
the perl-5.004-6.rpm and my global / chunk errors went away. 4.004-8 didn't
work either...  Not sure about the CGI errors though.
