Already answered in IRC but I'll share here for others benefit:

It should be fine as long as your system's ca-certificates files are 
properly up to date.

What that article is saying is that if you use a custom CA certificates 
file(s) as an extra layer of trust against the authorize.net 
certificates that you will have to update that so it has the digicert 
root in it.  The vast majority of people will be using their system's CA 
certificates file which has all trusted roots in it including the 
digicert one so it should continue to work fine for authorize.net.
