[ic] Help uploading images thru admin. Which Damn widget do I use and what other options/filters?

I'm having some trouble getting the image upload feature of the admin
interface to work.

First a few things......


#1) I made my own catalog, I did not use the foundation demo
#2) I have a catname/images directory which is symlinked to the actual
images directory
#3) The permissions on the directory are 777 (I tried everything else)
#4) I'm using mysql as my database

ok, now for the problem....

#1) When I choose imageupload as the widget type, it does not save the image
to the directory
#2) Instaed of copying the filename to the database field specified, it
fills it with binary data

Before anybody asks, I did look at some post in the archive, but they didn't
seem to help me at all.
