Thanks for the help, but if I do what you suggest then the problem becomes,
how to define the variable called "[box-data area code]on" because if I
define that as a new scratch variable I don't get the value of ^  that
variable.  Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, but basically I want to
make a different variable for each area, and if the variable for that area
is set, then display the categories for that area. If the variable for that
area is not set then don't display the categories for it.
