fyi - on my system that's not working, it's returning true eveytime.  i finally got it to work with:

[calc]$Scratch->{test} = '[total-cost]'; return;[/calc]]
[if scratch test =~ /^\$0\.00/]
1
[else]
2
[/else]
[/if]

i know this is silly!
