It sounds like you need the [filter] tag.

[filter 10]There is a lot of text here[/filter]   --> There is a
[filter 10.]There is a lot of text here[/filter]  --> There is a...

There's also an [item-filter], [loop-filter] and any other sort of
[PREFIX-filter] you can think of.
