[ic] default admin username/pass issue

i installed interchange on a test server as a simple
user (from the tarball) - everything seem fine up to
the point where i try to login to the admin section
with what i think are the default username/pass - interch/pass
but i get a reply saying:

Failure: Invalid username or password.

does someone know what could be wrong?
