Insert a line like

Test 1: [item-param code]<BR>
Test 2: [scratch mycode]<BR>

to see, what you get. Then if [item-param code] looks like "12345", try

[if scratch mycode eq "12345"]

or

[if scratch mycode eq 12345]

or

[if scratch mycode =~ /12345/]

as a test and go on.
