[ic] adding table columns, HOW?

There must be a way to add columns to tables like products.txt.  There is 
currently description, title, and on and on, and I would like to add a few 
of my own strictly for display in the UI such as supplier.  Would it work to 
just add them right in the txt file itself with tab deliminations?  Could a 
new column be inserted in front of a bunch of other ones that are not being 
used?  Is there any way to add new columns through the UI?
