There are no whitespaces 
It looks like this:

Have you a working demo shop? If yes, can you change the locale in this
demo shop to de_DE and try it?
Don't forget to look into products/locale.txt!

I've exactly three shops running with this problem!

Hmmm...did you edit all your stuff with an editor under WIN? Are there
any wrong line ending code from WIN in your file, if you edit your stuff
with WIN?

Sometimes I use ultraedit and do my uploads in ascii mode.
But in most cases I use vi!
