Yep, I've done it this way as well. Also use a custom filter to strip the
merchant- bit to display the sku only.

Still, doesn't sort out the problem of displaying the
vlink.cgi/1234?merchant=my_store bit.
I would just use vlink.cgi/mystore-1234 and split the merchant out of the
code for page formatting.
