Oh, I thought you would do something more like:

[set gnum][value mv_searchspec][/set]
[set mv_put_session]yes[/set]

and retrieve with

<IMG SRC="/images/g[scratch gnum].gif">

I believe that you have to set your scratch before you 'put session'.  At 
least, that works for me.  :-)
