I have done something similar on a site. I wrote a little [perl] to check
for the conditions and then remove the shipping types, so that when it
[loop]'s through the string to create the drop down to select shipping
types, they are not shown. I believe Mr. Heins has suggested writing a
custom UserTag to calculate your shipping in cases like this.

****** message to minivend-users from Kareef Huggins <Xellos@netzero.net> ******
I found a workaround the object moved error. but now I have a new problem...
when I enter the catalog, using the url:
http://osaka.animeuniverse.net/scripts/fansubs.exe
The items i have added to the various .asc databases show up fine in Browse, Search,
and Shopping Cart sections, but the Directory section still shows 2 entries from the
demo simple cart that I can't find anywhere.
I checked ALL the files in the "products" directory in the catalog files space and
coudn't find a single trace of these items, yet they are still being displayed on the
catalog through the browser.
I have tried refreshing the browser window a few times, and even a completely
different computer and no change. Any ideas?
btw, you can access the url above to see what i am talking about. Its not fully
configured but its working.
If anyone is willing to help, i can also send the product index files and the
catalog.cfg file if it helps.

Cool. Took a while to figure out the syntax, but I have something
working.
Thanks!
For those interested (and for the archives), I'm including the UserTag
below. No laughing please. :)

Here's how it's supposed to work:
Orders to WA, OR, ID, CA, UT, & NV: Ground 15% of total, $5.00 min.
Orders to OR, ID, CA, UT, & NV: 2day air 20% of total, $10.00 min.
Orders to all states except AK: 2day air 30% of total, $10.00 min.
Orders to AK: 2day air 35% of total, $18.00 min.
Orders to British Columbia, Canada: Ground 35% of total, $12.00 min.
Orders to other parts of Canada: Ground 40% of total, $15.00 min.
This only limits the shipping options in the pulldown menu. Setting minimum
order values comes later.
In catalog.cfg:
# checkshipmodes: only return list of available shipping modes for
# a given state/country combination
#
# returns a list matching the codes column in shipping.asc
UserTag checkshipmodes InsideHTML
UserTag checkshipmodes Order state country
UserTag checkshipmodes Routine <<EOR
sub {
my ($state, $country) = @_;
my $shipmode;
return "noship" if $state eq "HI";
$shipmode .= "ground " if ($state =~ /^(?:WA|OR|ID|CA|UT|NV)$/ ||
$country !~ /^(?:United States|US)$/i);
$shipmode .= "2-day" if ($state ne "WA");
return $shipmode;
}
EOR
In ord/checkout.html (replacing the section under the default "Choose
your shipping method" section):
<SELECT MV=loop MV.ARG="[checkshipmodes
state='[value state]' country='[value country]'
]"
MV.OPTION="mv_shipmode"
onChange="this.form.submit()"

Hi all,
I dont know of a good html mailing list, and since people in this list has
to work with html, maybe someone could help me with this one...
I use :
<style type="text/css"> <!--
a:link {text-decoration: none; color: #808080;}
a:active {text-decoration: none; color: #0000FF;}
a:visited {text-decoration: none; color: #0000FF;}
a:hover {text-decoration: none; color: #000000; background-color:
#FFFF00}
--></style>
to eliminate the underline in the links and give a specific color to the
links (#808080)....the site in question has two background colors, black and
white....because the links in the black background look good in yellow, but
yellow doesnt do a good contrast with the white part....., i would love to
have two <style> tags, but i tried it without success....someone knows of a
way to assing two different link color in a document??
Thanks!

I think for compatability, you will need to do something like this:
<style type="text/css"> <!--
a:link {text-decoration: none; color: #808080;}
a:active {text-decoration: none; color: #0000FF;}
a:visited {text-decoration: none; color: #0000FF;}
a:hover {text-decoration: none; color: #000000; background-color:
#FFFF00}
.mystyle {text-decoration: none; color: #FFFFFF;}
--></style>
and then:
<a href=...><span class=mystyle>My Link Text</span></a>

Subject: [mv] Strangeness in shipping formulas
****** message to minivend-users from "Christopher P. Lindsey" <lindsey@mallorn.com> ******
You're probably all getting sick of my questions... I promise to answer
ten-fold once I understand everything. :)
I've been setting up minimum order amounts and noticed two oddities:
1. I can't seem to send multiple arguments to a subroutine from
the shipping calculations. Here's my line from shipping.asc:
2-day 2nd day air price 0 9999999 s twoday; [value state] @@TOTAL@@
Notice that [value state] and @@TOTAL@@ are space-delimited at the
end, so my function then needs to split on whitespace to extract
the arguments. Is there a better way to do this? I tried tabs,
commas, semi-colons, all to no avail.
2. My function works fine, but it also sets ship_message to the numeric
value being returned. Not a big deal, but it seems a little
strange since I'd like to reserve that for right for error messages.
The subroutine 'twoday' is listed below.
Thanks for any light that you can shed on this!
Chris
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
In shipping.asc:
2-day 2nd day air price 0 9999999 s twoday; [value state] @@TOTAL@@
In catalog.cfg:
Sub <<EOF
sub twoday {
my ($args) = @_;
my ($state, $price) = split ' ', $args;
if ($state =~ /^(?:OR|ID|CA|UT|NV)$/) {
$multiplier = .20; $minimum = 10;
} elsif ($state =~ /^AK$/) {
$multiplier = .35; $minimum = 18;
} else {
$multiplier = .30; $minimum = 10;
}
return ($price * $multiplier > $minimum) ? $price * $multiplier : $minimum;
}
EOF

It shouldn't need cookies because the session ID is being passed around in
the URL. I still am not able to get items to appear on the checkout page.
Everything works without a secure server specified. I have tried many
combinations, complete reinstall, etc. I notice one symptom is that if I
click on the checkout form button, it takes me to basket page instead of
the checkout page and there cart is empty. The checkout like on the menu
bar goes to the checkout page with no items in cart. Strange. Any ideas on
how to narrow down what is going wrong?

Subject: [mv] transaction table SQL configuration
****** message to minivend-users from Shane Roberts <shane@shaneroberts.com> ******
Anyone understand the use of the "transaction" table with an SQL
database?
I am using MySQL.
The "transaction" table of a default MiniVend configuration is
actually broken into two tables in the database.
A normal "Database" configuration tag in MiniVend specifies a
database identifier such as "products" for the products database.
How does one describe the "transaction" database for a MySQL
configuration in MiniVend, since it is two tables not just one?
Or perhaps it is not really two tables, but on table with
different kinds of records in it, the "header" record and the
"product item" record.
And how are "transaction" fields referenced in MiniVend tags to
distinguish which table they are coming from, of the two
transaction tables?
I am having trouble making sense of the "transaction" table.
Can anyone help to clear up this confusion for me?
Thanks,
Shane Roberts

Try to single out the directive that fails for you (check out
the new Message directive). The demo
shop is working for me with latest MV4.

First check your MiniVend error logs. It is very likely that you
find an error message there.

Dear all,
I am looking to setup a minivend store in Australia but so far have only
found one ISP that supports it (Connect Infobahn - Host1). Can anyone
offer any suggestions, recommendations or advice? Does anyone use Connect
Infobahn and can offer any feedback on the service?
Thanks,
Amber.

Did you get your items in your cart, if you change the session ID in
your browser location bar?

Subject: [mv] MV4.0alpha8 Startup problem
****** message to minivend-users from "Chris Müller" <cjmueller@polinet.ch> ******
After having successfully installed and run MV4.0alpha4, I have upgraded
to MV4.0alpha8 because it took MV some 20 minutes to start the server
and used a couple of hundred MB of RAM, so that I thought it had loaded
the complete catalog into memory (but it did start!). My catalog has
500,000+ records with over 90 fields each and runs on mySQL. Before
referring to the list to find out whether this was "normal" behaviour I
decided to upgrade and see whether this was persistent.
Now MV4.0alpha8 does not start the server (skipping), and returns the
message:
config error: Can't locate object method "open_table" via package
"Vend::Table::DBI at /usr/local/minivend/lib/Vend/Data.pm line 742
The same error is reproted for the catalog built under MV4.0alpha4 and
the newly installed simple of MV4.0alpha8!
Is my DBI module outdated or do I miss something here?
Installation is SUSE Linux, Perl 5.00503 Safe-Hole installed, mySQL
3.23.7
Thanks for any help.

Pls excuse me for posting the problem twice.
I am for a few days in a dial-up environment and had a power outage last
night. I was convinced that the message had not been sent before all
lights went suddenly out.
