Ok, it's like this - my nifty FTP program defaults to binary transfer mode
when the file being transferred does not have an extension.  The "report"
file in the "etc" subdirectory actually contains the code which writes the
order to transactions.gdbm.  And it also has no extension.  Arg!  WS_FTP
mangled it every time I uploaded it to our space on our ISP's server.  I
had only started editing the file recently; that's why I had not seen the
problem before.  Attention all other windows users: be sure to configure
your FTP software to treat he various extensions of the minivend files you
work with (.asc, .html, .profiles, etc) as belonging to text files!
Otherwise you may get strange results or errors when you use them.
