minivend is slow using PWS

I have installed minivend (3.14-4) on Win 95 and it all seems 
to work  fine. I am using Personal Web Server and running the servers
(PWS and minivend) on the same PC as the browser

The sample catalog displays quickly as long as I have a network 
connection. If the network connection is not there, it displays 
but only very slowly. This is a pity because the network connection
costs the price of a phone call and I feel that I need time to explore 
minivend to understand how it works.

It looks to me as if the browser is waiting for something to time-out 
before it shows the page but I can not find out what is holding it
back. The server console window shows nothing other than:

SORT: File <TMP\SORT.TEST> not found

plus some other similar lines. These are also produced when the network
connection is there so I don't think they are part of the problem.
There is nothing useful in the log.

The performance issues section of the FAQ doesn't seem to have anything
relevant. I would be very grateful for any advice you could offer.
