setting variables with a drop-down

hi,

is there a way to store whatever is selected in a drop-down, so that the
information can be used on another page?

we want to have a drop-down of various states, and depending on what the
user selects, a search profile is put together accordingly on another page
and various blanks are filled in on the page.
