You could start with your file system. I've got all web/minivend
stuff operating on a separate drive, isolated from the OS.
Page and Search Caching helps a lot. (basically, an 'on' or 'off'
directive in your config)
Building an index of your products for fast binary search helps
greatly, especially if you find the best field to build the index
by. (Personally, I used the first/code field, as most of my access is by
item code.)
Lastly, using efficient minivend scripting/perl coding can shave
some seconds. It is a challenge sometimes to develop code to achieve a
complex task (especially when it is not found in examples or the demo -
such as 'shoppers who bought X also bought Y'...) however, it is more of
challenge to make that code efficient and faster.
You've got a perfectly capable machine, it should not take 20
seconds to display ANY page.
