MiniMate and products.gdbm

I'm running MiniVend V3.14-3 and am NOT using SQL.

When using the MiniMate administration tool to modify my products database,
I see that only the products.gdbm file is changed.

Any subsequent modifications to the products.asc file causes the
modifications which were made to the products.gdbm using MiniMate to be
lost.  (If changes to the products.gdbm file were automatically reflected in
the products.asc file, there would be no problem.)

Is there any way to extract a nice ASCII tab-delimited database from the
products.gdbm file so that it can be easily modified using a text editor or
imported into a database or spreadsheet program?   (or is there an easier
way that I'm over looking?)
