Another cry for help mv server failing

Currently my MVServer is not available. I've had these random server stops
for a while now and cannot diagnose the problem. Sometimes I see the
"Spurious PID file for process 10392 supposedly running 301 seconds" as the
last log entry, but current stop shows nothing in either catalog and mvend
error logs.

Trying to get debugging going with bin/ifdef -y -t DEBUG just hangs there.
and echos anything I write to cancel it.
same happens when I try to run check.

Upon the restart, I get the " We couldn't immediately terminate the Minivend
Server running on PID 32462, etc etc..." before it configures fine and logs
show no errors after startup.

Apache/Linux/MV 3.14-3, (Same version as March).
I see that "The Mysterious Periodic Dissappearance etc" thread mentions
running the checkstat.sh every 5 min but I too would like to understand or
at least fix the problem. I can't believe everyone running this config or
using FreeBSD has had to use Kyle's workaround and fall back to 3.11? I am
still in test mode so the mvend server can't be getting hit too hard.

ulimit shows:
core file size (blocks) 1000000
data seg size (kbytes) unlimited
file size (blocks) 1048576
max memory size (kbytes) unlimited
stack size (kbytes) 8192
cpu time (seconds) unlimited
max user processes 256
pipe size (512 bytes) 8
open files 2048
virtual memory (kbytes) 210534

I've also been assured by my ISP that they aren't zapping PIDs.

I'm new to MVend but have utmost respect for the product and open-source, if
there is additional information that those in the know would need to
diagnose this, please let me know.
