[matches] tag

Regarding the results.html page, how does one go about dropping the
number of matches returned with each page?
  	For example, instead of listing every 50 matches -- dropping this
down to every 30 matches.
  	I know it's the [matches] tag, but I can't figure out how to change
the default. I've searched the mail-list archive, as well as the
documentation sets.
