Items Directly to Shopping Cart

Is there a way to make a link that goes directly to a shopping cart and
puts an item in it (using the "simple" type store)?  I have a client who
wants a banner ad (placeable on other sites) that when clicked will go
directly to the cart with the item already added.  

They have a few items and want seperate banner ads for each, so that the
banner will say "Click here to buy a _____" and clicking on it will drop
the person right into a cart, where they can change the quantity and then
move on to the checkout form.

Is this possible, or does there need to be an intermediate product page?
