Problem with multiple description lines

I am having a problem putting long product descriptions in my product
table. 
My products.asc table is:

I have set the product database directives in the catalog.cfg file as:

Database            products     products.asc      TAB
Database            products     CONTINUE          DITTO
Database            products     INDEX             category

My understanding from the Import Attributes section of the documentation
is that this allows separation lines for long descriptions.
Otherwise, there is no control over where the line break occurs for long
descriptions.
I am just using Minivend's internal database.

The above additional description lines (e.g. Hunter's Special,  2 Large
Pockets Feature) are on separate lines, with tab separation
between the fields, until the description field is reached.

I've seen the board messages from Aug 17-18, 1998, about Long Text
Descriptions, but still haven't figured this out.
Any help will be appreciated.
