special characters in database fields

Hi! Mike,

Following is my system:

Redhat linux 6.0
Minivend 3.14-3

Question:

I am trying to make my catalogs support special characters.  However, when I put special characters in the fields of
products.asc file, those fields with special characters cannot be used as a key to search.  For example, if I put in
special characters in the category field, it never shows up in the category search results.  This issue is relevant
especially because I plan to support international languages, particularly Asian languages with double-byte characters.
