it could be that its actually not running the daemon. For example, last
night I rebooted the server and for whatever reason, the minivend entry
in the server bootup script didn't work. So, this morning my client got
a "Server is busy or experiencing diffuculty or something."

Which was because the daemon was not running. The daemon (the start
script, fires it up) must be runing in order to operate.
