What part of the world are you in?  If you are in the US in a major metro area, you
could consider just having a DSL or Cable Modem connection to your home... I have a
256k (both directions) DSL for a total monthly cost of $47.49 with a dedicated
IP...  That would allow you to have complete control of your system(s)...
