I think the internal minivend databases are much faster. I have used
mysql ( which seriously outperforms MS ACCESS ) and compared it to
the minivend database structure to find that the minivend method is
quick! The only real reason( in my opinion ) to use an SQL solution
is if you need some sort of flexibility or really clean integration
with existing inventory/product systems. We have used SQL for that
with great success.
You do not want to encrypt your entire database. In fact, the only
thing that needs encryption is the credit card # and minivend handles
that on its own very easily (provided you have pgp set up properly ).
