Re: Dbase Linux NT

Mike,

MyODBC works well with MySQL on a UNIX system.  With MyODBC I can manipulate data in the MySQL Unix database using MS Access from my Win 95 or NT machine.

The NT version of Minivend works well, I have two stores on a single computer and have been running for about 6 months without many problems (with the lone exception of getting that blasted Blat program to work.)  As I am not a Dbase guru I cannot comment on it usefulness across the linux and NT OS's, however, as long as you  have an ODBC driver you will be good.  The basic process is so:
Install an odbc client on the NT machine that uses the Linux server as its Dbase server,
configure the catalog.cfg file to use it.
Oversimplified I know, however, the real question is whether or not the dbase server can be set up in a client/server mode and then accessed through ODBC.

Subject: Dbase Linux NT

Hello -

I have a client with a LARGE database.  Nearly a half a million entries.

He currently has the database working with Dbase and we're planning a system for him that will utilize his database with minivend for an online catalog that will operate in conjunction with his store point of sale system.  Now what I'm wondering is how well the NT version of Minivend will run?  Is it doable??

Also, how hard is it to link a Linux system with the NT Dbase network that he currently has??  Any information would be helpful as I am a Linux Newbie.  Thanks.
