changing frames

I am about to set up a frame based shop.

If a user ordered something and entered his data on the checkout-page I use
mv_change_frame to get rid of the frames and display his receipt on the
"_top"-page.

But if he has to fill out more fields the user is directed to the
needfield-special page and this is my problem - this page is also displayed
with target=_top.

How do I switch to frame _top if everything is allright and stay in the same
frame if there is a problem (or if MV needs more input)?
