Re: ECML
It definately looks like an attempt to push SET (the only payment options
are basically credit card using set or 'none'), however I see much more
possbility, *especially* if the "standard" is broken and additional payment
types are defined (onlinecc, onlinecheck, etc). Using a transfer mechanism
such as Allaire's WDDX, it should be possible to create apps that can
really transfer financial information in an "independent" manner, rather
than having to recode to each e-commerce system available. I've already
seen one app that can automatically fill in the form fields using DOM - I
was wondering how it "knew" which fields to fill out on the form, and I
guess that this is it.
It is true that SET hasn't gained acceptance in the U.S. -- companies like
PaymentNet and AuthorizeNet are thriving, though Internet based fraud is
still a huge problem. To be really international, then some SET support
will be required, and I'm still looking at how to do this in the Minivend
environment - with and without client certificates. Suggestions?
