Re: MiniVend 3.15

Mike,
I'd be willing to continue to maintain the 3.xx version; if someone else on the list would like to help me out... I'm pretty busy up here in NH, and I'm sure most of the users on the list are too... maybe a one other on the list would like to ``join forces'' (... ughh... thats what happens when you see Starwars the night before!...) and help maintain it?  I do have a very strong PERL along with C/C++ background, so the programming aspects should not be a problem...

    Thanks,

    Jason Korkin.

Hi all,

At this point, I have reached the end for MiniVend 3. I am finding
it increasingly difficult to both maintain it and work on MiniVend 4.

I will be releasing 3.15 within a few weeks, so if you have any thing
that you feel should be fixed with it, speak now or forever hold your
peace. Note that I  may not feel the same way. 8-)

If someone would like to take over maintenance of this branch,
I would certainly be willing to deal. There is certainly a user
base that will find it difficult to switch to MV4. If you are a
consultant who wants business, I can guarantee it will be a source
of leads. I do know most of us that can handle it already have
more than enough to do. 8-)

Obviously there must be _strong_ Perl knowledge; MV is not simple
'print "this" and print "that"' code.

I think it has become the best of breed in a relatively small niche in
the e-commerce market -- free and high-end. 8-) But there is too much
baggage from previous versions, and it is not near where I would like
it to be. So I will focus on stripping out the inconsistencies and
eliminating features that have outlived their usefulness and producing
a third system instead of "The Mythical Man-Month" second system. Where
possible I will build on current usage, but you can expect a major port
for MV 4.
