I am trying to get MV to use a database built on Lotus Approach and
exported to the PC DOS/OS2 (should I use Windows ascii) format of type.
I have tried several ways to get it running with the result always being
that the price field yields only 0.00. I made the price field a
"calculated" field in Approach and when I exported the file it looks OK
in any ascii text viewer. Some items have 3 or 4 decimal places, is that
the problem or is the fact that the field is calculated the problem. If
I repalce my products.asc with the original simple catalog products.asc
file everything works fine. I NEED to be able to have the prices
calculated as that is how I establish the markup on my products. The
database is way too large to manage by individual item (over 100,000
items). Also I am wondering about the memory requirements for using MV

cut .....

I ask this because The last time I tried to reload the database the
entire system crashed and screwed op the filesystem (I rebooted from a
second Linux drive and rebuilt the server file tree and restored
everything so no problem there) however This has NEVER happened before.
Thanks!

If you use the sql capabilities of mv you may find that you will need
by far less memory only thing you have to do is import the database
into the server..

I took an dbase 4 database and installed an odbc driver for mysql into
the windows machine imported it into wordperfect's database editor then
connected to the odbc database that I had set up and wrote all of 4000
products to the database...

this way with sql you do not have to "load" the database into memory

and so will be much faster for you

questions pls let me know
