How to trigger on a CGI arg upon catalog entry?
****** message to minivend-users from Joe Mazz <joemazz@earthlink.net> ******
I have read the Minivend docs many times, but I can't figure out how the optional input
"arg" works. The problem is simply that I want to trigger different discounts
and display options by conditioning on the value of one or more CGI parameters
(such as a user name and password) sent to the catalog entry link program.
Since the CGI link program uses a session ID and an optional "arg" separated by
a semi-colon, can one add standard CGI name/value pairs after these in a GET
as follows: <A HREF="http://mysite.com/cgi-bin/cat/index?discount=5&password=HGF23s">,
where cat is my link program, and index is the entry catalog page,
or the equivalent using SELECTs or TEXT fields in a <FORM> tag?
If so, what MV code can be used in my minivend pages/index.html file to read
and store (for the whole session) the CGI argument values given to the start-up link program?
If not, how do minivend gurus implement different catalog entry conditions,
say from an HTML form where the user selects different options or enters a password?
I'd like to use cookies as a last resort, since many users refuse them, but I'll take what
I can get at this point.
Code snippets/examples would be most helpful, but any hints
offered will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Joe
