Help! Loosing cart with SSL

Dear MV Users.

My server setup is as follows: MV-3.12, Apache 1.3.4, RedHat 4.2. To see
an example of my problem you can go to http://bransonbelle.com/ecat.

What I have discovered so far:

I cannot run vlink if permissions are -rwsr-xr-x.  I must chmod to 755
before the catalog will run (completely through checkout).  Everything
works if I set the catalog.cfg file such that: Secure_Server  equal to
Server_Name.

If I change Secure_Server to the correct name,
https://sterling.site-secure.net/bransonbelle (in catalog.cfg) and run
chmod 666 etc/socket,  a secure checkout page gets served but the
shopping cart gets dropped. I've tried setting DomainTail No and IpHead
Yes but to no change.  So, I guess this means vlink is getting passed
through the secure server but path info pertaining to the catalog  is
not...?

I wasn't getting images through the secure server until I defined
ImageDirSecure in the catalog.cfg file.  However, I'm still unable to
get my BACKGROUND image through the secure server.

What am I missing here!!??  I will greatly appreciate any input or help
anyone can provide.
