searching alternate databases

Im having a problem sorting out searching a database file other than the
products database. 


I have set the database directive to include two files

rawcoins.asc

and

certcoins.asc

in the page i set the mv_search_file variable to 

either certcoins.asc or rawcoins.asc via a radio button
eg.

<input type=radio name=mv_search_file value=certcoins.asc>
<input type=radio name=mv_search_file value=rawcoins.asc>

when i search thought it finds and reports the correct number of records
it will not display the fields i ask for. 

Now to partially solve the problem i moved one of the data bases into
products and removed one of the radio buttons.

so now there is only 

<input type=radio name=mv_search_file value=rawcoins>

so now the products database returns the correct records and i can access
the fields. However, the rawcoins search does not. 

How do i access fully a second database of type .asc?
