Reguarding: Consultant needed!
****** message to minivend-users from Mi-Recordz <mi-r@mi-recordz.com> ******
Hello,
I need to hire someone to help build a minivend strategy for my
independent record label. I haven't a clue what kind of prices a
competent perl/minivend programmer is going to command but if it's not
outlandish I'd really like to go with minivend rather than another
commercial product.
I am a fish out of water with perl, mysql and basically any
datastructure programming. Once you build the basic "template" with me
I'll be able to do the monkey work of adding in the rest of the bands
and additional data. I guess what I need you to do is get me to a point
where I've got a working model. If you want to build the site with
static pages rather than SSI then that's your call but I want to know
why.
You can expect me to follow your directions. If you tell me to build
perl from source and to set-up the server in x way, I'll probably have
some questions but I'll relentlessly attempt to do what you need. If you
tell me to have perl.5004_04.tar.gz on the system so you can build it
yourself then that's exactly what you'll get. I do have sshd2 running on
my system and of course we'll use that to allow you access to the
server. I didn't compile ssh for ssh1 compatibility--we'll do what we
needs to be done.
I've built a preliminary web that basically demonstrates the
organization of my site (www.mi-recordz.com) it's being served from a
dial-up. Incidentally, the site looks pretty cool on my Linux, Netscape
4.07, 1024x768 server but looks like crap everywhere else. I am
completely open to suggestions about designing an affective web. In
truth the current web has some nice ideas but performs like crap! One
thought I've got is to abandon the frame concept and move to a non-frame
approach but this is another issue I want you to give me the pros and
cons on. Although, you're not responsible for building the web/artwork,
I need you to handle the perl and if you choose sql aspects.
Server:
Red Hat 5.2, not opposed to rebuilding with RH6.0,
Apache which ever version you want, I assume the most recent stable
release.
Perl; two installs of 5.004_04, one from .rpm and another from source.
If we want to use the source built version we'll need to confirm that
it's a good build. Or, if you want them both eliminated and to start
from scratch, you'll need to give me some guidance but I'll be happy to
do it.
If you want me to rebuild the server to your specs, consider it done.
I hope someone has the time and know how to jump on this. Please let me
know when we can start and aproximately how long it'll take to complete
this. If you can give an aproximate price toss that at me. Perhaps
you'll need to discuss it further before you can give me a price. I'll
respond to everyone that replies within a couple days of your initial
contact. If you've got references, fine. If not but you know you're the
person for the job, convince me. Any suggestions on how to select
someone for the job are appreciated.
