On the contrary, I'd say go ahead and use it! :-)
We use it all the time, it works great. Many of our merchants use it to
maintain their products database because it is convenient for them.
Probably you made the right changes but MiniVend has not re-read your
products.asc file since the changes.
Three things to do:
1) Add lines like these to your catalog.cfg (you need both):
Database products products.asc TAB
Database products EXCEL 1
2) Reconfig your catalog so the catalog.cfg changes get picked up
3) Touch your products.asc (or otherwise modify it), so that MiniVend
sees that it is new and rebuilds the .db or .gdbm database from it
Make sure you're running MiniVend 3.12, so you have the latest fixes for
Excel import (ok, that's four things).
