to limit the number of matches on a page use mv_matchlimit (ml). I also
found it useful to use mv_todo instead of mv_doit when initiating a search
from a form. I don't know why this makes a difference but it seems to on
our machine. We are using MV 3.12beta13 on linux 2.0.35 and perl 5.004_04
