configuration error

Does anyone have any insight as to why I would be getting the following
error during the 'make test' phase of the configuration process ?
socket link..not ok 2
2 tests run -- 1/ failed.
make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 1
I had a previous version of minivend installed fine, want to upgrade to 3.11
but it doesn't seem to want to work.
Im using Minivend 3.11 and Perl 5.004_02 on Slackware linux (kernel 2.0.30)
