hmm, after I learned on the CeBIT that Intershop is going to run
its package on Linux and charges around
$ 6 600.00 for their Merchant Edition (which allows you to run
only ONE catalog online),
$ 13 200.00 for their Hosting Edition (allows you to run FIVE
catalogs online) and
$ 39 000.00 for their Developer Edition (allows you to run 50
catalogs),
Oracle on Linux
for commercial use on a Webserver is $ 13 200.00
Informix on Linux
for commercial use on a Webserver is around $ 6 600.00
and Sybase on Linux
has no price yet as well as
IBM's db2 version for Linux ...
I would say, that we should give Mike's magic MiniVend some serious
headcrashes on our keyboards and Mike Heins some more serious support.
Asking what the Intershop people think about freeware shopping carts,
the answer was: "If the customers are happy using it, we can't care
less".
We should make them care a bit more, I think. 8-)
What is a bit more than magic to me is Mike Heins' attitude to continue
to leave MiniVend freeware. 8-)
May be this is not a place to discuss open source business models,
freeware and magic software, but ... it's a subject everyone who
uses MiniVend should give some SERIOUS thought. People who take
things for granted haven't seen misery yet....
I am somewhat lost in what way one could give back something to Mike
Heins for what he has given us.
OK, this list is getting too busy. Why not working on making the
documentation clearer ? So that traffic can calm down and 60 percent
of all questions just get the famous "FAQ" answer.
Is there a verdict now on what kind of template we will use for
tag reference documentation purposes ????????
