ProductFiles in Minivend 3.12Beta13

I'm having trouble with setting a database for MV to use, it seems that no
matter what I set in the catalog.cfg file, i.e.:

Database movies movies.asc dbi:mysql:videodb:localhost:3306
ProductFiles movies
-------
MV seems to always use the products.asc file as it's database... if I remove
the products.asc file I get errors stating that the file doesn't exist.. the
catalog.cfg file reflects exactly what I want it to though MV doesn't
present the info in the database.. only the contents of products.asc :?
am I missing something.. the docs are very vague when it comes to using a
different source other than "products"
