Installation Error: &main::server_not_running

Hello! I'm hoping to find help with an installation problem.
I get the following installation errors when trying to install 3.11 or
3.12beta10 on FreeBSD 2.2.7 using Perl 5.004_04:
PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl -I./blib/arch -I./blib/lib -I/usr/local/lib/perl5/i386-freebsd/5.004
04 -I/usr/local/lib/perl5 test.pl
server.......ok 1
Undefined subroutine &main::server_not_running called at test.pl line 108.
socket link..*** Error code 255
I found numerous mentions of this error from searching the mailing list,
but I didn't see any responses! Can anyone help me out? thanks.
