The other thing here, is that MV is a terrible beast.
I've been on this list for months and the questions are bloody
esoteric. I think the core problem is, the documentation was written
by a programmer, for a programmer and assumes the reader is an
EQUALLY KNOWLEDGEABLE programmer.
I've had plenty of conversations with Mike, and he's a great guy.
He also assumes, the rest of us have MV documentation burned into our
heads. Not a big flaw, I do the same with my code, and so do rest of the
programmers I know. The good ones anyway.
The MV documentation project is a GREAT first step in opening MV to
the masses and I plan to contribute where I can.
OTOH, I do agree that many of the listers are consultants who play
a closely held game - akin to poaching. Let me add, that there are several
luminaries on this list - Dan Busarow, Brigit Funk, Franz ..., who DO
contribute regularly, and contribute well.
It's a shame several recent posters have done nothing but bitch
about MV, MV support or lack thereof. I've used commercial packages,
and frankly, MV beats the pants off of everybody else.
Currently, MV is like apache 0.7. Great idea, good execution.
Requires quad-digit IQ to make it work. Let the docs get off the ground,
and MV will follow Apache's trajectory.
Here's a hint guys: Intershop is a joke and MS' Commerce Server is
a toy. Those are the two big boys on the field.
