Dilemma
****** message to minivend-users from joe@cyberdyne.net (Joe Arcuri) ******
Hi everybody,
I'm faced with a little dilemma, I'm about to embark on what I think is a
huge e-commerce project. Thing is, I'm an MCSE / CNE Unix quasi-guru, but a
newcomer to e-commerce/database/html stuff. So here is the problem, I've
been setting up many sites (backends to e-commerce) for a couple of clients
and every freaken one insists on using MS-SQL 7 / IIS 4 /asp - vb etc... , I
use Solaris 2.7 on 2 Sun Ultra 5's , Linux 2.0.36/Slackware, AIX 4.3.2. and
the obvious NT 4, on my systems and was wondering.. I've been fiddling with
a minivend / mysql and ms-access using myodbc to access the databases,
combination and frankly, I'm not sure anymore as to what exactly I should
choose for my own e-commerce site. What I'm building is a
video/video-game/PC-game site. URL is http://www.inetvideo.com for anyone
who eventually wants to check it out.. right now I've got a temporary page
up.. but it's gonna be huge.
Please bear with me, I ask this list knowing full well that this list is all
about minivend.. don't get me wrong , I love the product.. but how well does
it handle extreme amounts of transactions to a mysql database, or will it
handle MS SQL with transaction server if required... I "think" minivend with
mysql is a good combo.. but, we're talking about half a million titles,
movies and games galore with hopefully what will be a couple of thousand
transactions per day or more...
Therefore: WHAT software combinations do you all think is best.. for
something like this, is minivend really the product? Please, try to justify
your response if you bother to respond at all.
Long winded.. I know, sorry need justification to commit
Joe
