[if file [value ...]]

Hello all...

I am trying to do the following (code says more than words ;):

  [if file /some/dirs/[value mv_searchspec].html]
    [then]
      [include file="/some/dirs/[value mv_searchspec].html"]
    [/then]
    [else]
      <a href="file:///some/dirs/[value mv_searchspec].html">link</a>
    [/else]
  [/if]

on a results-page, but the result of [if file] is always false. The file
does exist (I&#180;ve inserted the [else] to verify this).
Does [value ] not work inside an [if ]?
([loop-field category] works e.g. if you want to include an image for
the category)...
