Passing Variables

****** message to minivend-users from Andrew Beebe <andy@datamaine.com> ******

I have been searching the archives but haven't found a solution to a
"newbie" problem.

I want to pass a value to a page from a link. I've had mediocre success,
but it's still not working right. I have tried a number of combinations
and this one seems to be the closest I've gotten.

On page 1, I put [page nextpage STUFF]. On "nextpage" I can see the
value "STUFF" if I put [data session arg], but I can't do anything with
it. I tried:

[if [data session arg] eq "STUFF"]
[then]
	...
[/then]
[/if]

but the commands in the if statement never get executed. Even though I
can see that [data session arg] does equal "STUFF".

I tried modifying the [PERL] section from the browse1.html file that
comes with the sample but the only thing that happens is the entire
[perl] block gets written to my error.log for some reason.

Other than the code I use ending up in the error log, there are no other
indications as to what's going wrong.

Is there a way to use "variable=somthing" on one page, then access it
with [value variable] on another?

What I'm trying to do is create a page showing certain items from my
catalog depending on which link the user clicks, rather than creating a
different page for each group of items.
