Bad Counter Magic

On the last step of the order process, I get this error message:

Runtime error: Bad counter magic in /catalogs/beads/etc/order.number at
/usr/local/minivend/lib/Vend/Order.pm line 817

I have tried deleting the order.number file and letting minivend rebuild it
automaticly, I have checked the file for extra hard returns. What should I
do? Anyone know?
