I don't know if it's my setup then, or what. I was using um...

[data inventory qty [item-code] -[item-quantity] decrement]

which was put in from the simple database, under um...I think it was a
3.08 install, or before that.

My main problem was that I have been getting inconsistant results from my
call. Sometimes I get the number, sometimes I get a null, and I have been
unable to track down what's different between it working, and it not
working.

I'm using :

andrew% /usr/local/bin/perl -version
This is perl, version 5.005_02 built for i386-freebsd

andrew% uname -a
FreeBSD andrew.dcr.net 2.2.8-STABLE FreeBSD 2.2.8-STABLE #0: Mon Dec 14 09:50:25 EST 1998 mandrews@dusty.dcr.net:/usr/src/sys/compile/ANDREW i386

and I just recently put in minivend 3.12, but haven't tested it to see if
I can still reproduce the problem. (unfortunately, a few other projects
that I was working on got bumped to higher priority, so I haven't been
messing with the minivend stuff in a few months)
