ascii vs SQL

hi there!
now that i got minivend to work with oracle (thanks to erik! :) i realize
how bad SQL search is... does it means that using ascii text format is the
only way to get a real good search engine? Also with a 96000 records, is a
ascii database will be faster than oracle?
Im to the point to go back to plain old text format, would that be my best
move?
