Re: Optimize Database

tables, one for basic product information and the other for very
specific, in-depth product information. The first table the products.asc
file is 7 MB, but the second table is over 100 MB. Does anyone have any
suggestions on ways to optimize this, speed up searches etc.
More CPU is my best suggestion. It seems less costly.

second database? What I would like is to have a button for more info on
the flypage, and have only information from the products.asc on the
flypage, and all the extended information on the second page.

HMm .. one of the more experienced will have to help with this one.

directive for a search. I have it set to 250, because the database has
75,000 products and it takes perl too long to generate an html response
to that. Nonetheless, if I search for something, it will return more than
250 results.
I changed my MaxHits directive to 10 in the Search.pm module. You may
need to do a better job of categorizing your products.
WHen you are dealing with such large databases, it is pretty hard to
deal with it. We limit all of our databases to only 300 products.
The fact is, only a few things will actually ever sell on the Internet.
The customer has to realize this and you as an administrator have to
be careful. Even the IBM Mainframes have trouble querying 75,000 records.
How can you expect a PC or Sparc to do any better?
The opinions expressed are my own. Love to hear other thoughts.
