clarifying mv_admin

Hello!

With some good intuition to specify the catalog type "admin", I got the
mv_admin catalog installed, but unfortunately, I still couldn't get it
to work. 
 The links on the front page to my catalogs all led to page with the apt
title "something is wrong". 
 I could get to the end of the  "make a new catalog" section, but there
apparently was an error making the catalog, although none was reported
on screen and nor in the main minivend error log, or the makecat.error
file that appeared.  I'm guessing my error has to do with security,
since I was not asked to autheticate when I arrived at the page.
 However, the RemoteUser and Password variables are set in the
catalog.cfg file, so it surprising I wasn't thrown to an error page
either. Perhaps It's a matter of getting a pair of
.htacess and .htpasswd files in the right place.

Is there a good mv_admin reference I'm missing? mv_admin success stories
out there?
